Cathy Rycroft nominated by PARDS
Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Cathy Rycroft for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Ever wondered what family members do when a spouse is here for seasonal work? Well fortunately for the past 2 years, Cathy has chosen to volunteer at PARDS. With horses back home with family, and previously working at racetracks, Cathy brought a wealth of knowledge and was missing her horse time. Being here for a few months, it was difficult to place Cathy in weekly lessons as some riders need the consistency of support. Cathy was a tremendous help filling in when and where ever needed if a volunteer was unable to make it. You could hear her friendly, lively voice say, “sure, just give me call anytime; I live really close by!” and at times would be here within minutes! Cathy helped in lessons, leading or side walking, grooming and tacking, and helped to keep our barn clean. Cathy is also an artist and has further showed her support to PARDS by donating her art work to PARDS Annual Dine & Dance fundraiser event. We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her next winter!’

What began as 1 – 3 hours a week, has now become 4 nights a week offering 8 hours of her time, tacking horses and assisting our riders in lessons. Judi enjoys the time spent with the horses, riders and other volunteers. One volunteer in particular comes numerous times as well throughout the week working along side Judi and the 2 have been affectionately dubbed, “the Dream Team”. Over the years Judi helped in other areas of volunteering, selling tickets or leading in pony rides at our Carnival. Judi has been a great supporter of PARDS, spreading the word to others about our programs and volunteering opportunities. Seeing opportunities where donated work time could be given, Judi has reached out to her employer, Ruskin Construction Ltd., and facility projects have been completed. One project was the completion of PARDS Critter pen where if you visit you will see Ruskin & Harker, PARDS donkeys, who were named after Judi and her employer for their help. With the various ways Judi enriches PARDS, especially the joy she brings our riders with her caring and fun nature, it is no wonder Judi was named PARDS 2019 Volunteer of the Year. Thank you Judi!’
