Seniors Outreach nominates Katherine Aylesworth for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘We appreciate Katherine’s willingness lend a helping hand – whether serving hot chocolate at the Northern Light Show or assisting with Ticket Sales at the 2023 Dream home and 2022 Cash & Camping. Thank you Katherine for your support.’

United for Literacy nominates Josaiah Ordonia for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Josaiah is kind, patient and conscientious when planning how to best support his learner during their reading time. This has allowed for his learner to gain confidence not only in his academics but also with his peers. Thank you Josaiah for sharing your time with United for Literacy.’

United for Literacy nominates Amanda Fiddler for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Amanda’s passion for literacy is contagious! Amanda shares her time two learners who are always looking forward to their next reading session with her. The smiles and laughter that they share over books will have a lifelong impact and for that we cannot thank her enough.’

Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Angie Gourlie for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Angie has been volunteering with PARDS for a number of years. She volunteers in the lessons, barn and at fundraising events throughout the year. She really enjoys being a part of the pure joy that riding and being around the horses brings to our clients. She leads horses in lessons, while riders are learning safety and sidewalks with those who are working on their balance. She has helped lead at the pony rides at the PARDS Carnival and bartends at many of our fundraising events. Angie regularly volunteers as a mentor in the Petit Trot program where she works one on one with young riders to catch, groom, saddle and ride their horse while earning certificates, as they master the skills needed to ride independently and take care of their horse before and after they ride. Having a mentor like Angie for these kids is truly a blessing. She is always willing to help in any way she can and cares deeply about the well being and happiness of our horses and clients.’

Grande Prairie Council for Lifelong Learning nominates Yingxin (Tracey) Teng for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Tracey is our learning assistant who supports our beginner ESL learners in the classroom every Tuesday and Thursday morning. She provides assistance to learners that require additional help with completing their lessons & classroom activities. We thank Tracey for her energy and passion in helping our ESL students succeed in learning the English language. She is a remarkable human being with a big heart for others, and we are lucky to have her on our team!’

Centre for Young Parents nominates Bernie Ollenberger for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Bernie began volunteering at the CYP Project Thrift Shop in September 2022 after staff inquired if she would be interested in helping out. Bernie responded without hesitation and commenced volunteering twice weekly. Bernie grew up on a farm and later became a farmer’s wife. In addition, she was an employee of a local retail store for 17 years. She is a hard worker and understands the unique challenges within that environment. Bernie enjoys working in the back room. It’s here that you will find her washing and sorting our donations. She loves to have a good time and has a great sense of humor that keeps everyone on their toes. It is a pleasure to have Bernie a part of the CYP Project Thrift Shop team!’

Seniors Outreach – Snow Fairies nominates Kevin Simon for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Kevin wanted to help out a senior in his area by joining the Snow Fairies program to help clear snow. He and his worker have made sure to keep the snow clear for the driveway they adopted, and we greatly appreciate them for it. Thank You Kevin.’

Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Ian MacDonald for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Ian is one of PARDS newest volunteers. His son now rides at PARDS, but when he registered and completed his assessment it was determined he would need a support team but at the time there were no volunteers available. Not wanting this to stop his son from riding, Ian came to the volunteer orientation and became a part of his son’s support team. He heard there were other volunteer opportunities and offered to come in for them as well. Ian also offers his time to fill in for other volunteers when he can. Ian has found a connection with our riders, creating a trusting bond with one rider in particular, and we have seen such positive changes in this rider. We can’t thank Ian enough for all he does.’

Seniors Outreach – Snow Fairies nominates Mitch Bourgeault for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Mitch and his son became Snow Fairies this winter to help a senior in their area with snow removal. We know how important it is as a parent to lead by example and by including children when doing community service and volunteering it encourages them to continue to do so when they are older. Thank you so much, we appreciate you both!’

United for Literacy nominates Joanne Peters for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘United for Literacy is very fortune to have Joanne as a volunteer. Joanne shares her valuable teacher experience and always goes above and beyond for her learner. Thank you, Joanne for sharing your time and knowledge with us. We appreciate you!’

Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Eva Sexton for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Eva has been riding in the public program at PARDS since 2020. She is a student with drive and commitment to progress as a rider. She enjoyed being around the barn and didn’t hesitate to start helping out with barn chores, mucking stalls, and cleaning the barn, outside of her lesson time. Within time, Eva has proven to be responsible and was asked to help in the Little Pony Motricity Summer Camp and more recently is assisting the instructor to mentor the younger riders in the Petite Trot Program to catch, groom, saddle up and ride their horses / ponies. Eva is always willing to help anyone, without hesitation; (unless it’s her little sister), she leaves her to struggle a little bit. All in her best interest of course, helping her to get strong and confident in herself. Thank you Eva for being a great youth volunteer.’

Grande Prairie Centre for Newcomers nominates Miranda Snydmiller for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Miranda started volunteering with us at the beginning of September 2022 as an English Conversation Club Facilitator and we are so grateful to have her on our team. Despite life sending many curve balls at her the last few months she stayed committed to facilitating our Wednesday classes. She is very relaxed and fun while facilitating sessions and participants feel so comfortable in their conversations. Thank you Miranda!’
