Centre for Young Parents nominates Bernie Ollenberger for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Bernie began volunteering at the CYP Project Thrift Shop in September 2022 after staff inquired if she would be interested in helping out. Bernie responded without hesitation and commenced volunteering twice weekly. Bernie grew up on a farm and later became a farmer’s wife. In addition, she was an employee of a local retail store for 17 years. She is a hard worker and understands the unique challenges within that environment. Bernie enjoys working in the back room. It’s here that you will find her washing and sorting our donations. She loves to have a good time and has a great sense of humor that keeps everyone on their toes. It is a pleasure to have Bernie a part of the CYP Project Thrift Shop team!’

Seniors Outreach – Snow Fairies nominates Kevin Simon for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Kevin wanted to help out a senior in his area by joining the Snow Fairies program to help clear snow. He and his worker have made sure to keep the snow clear for the driveway they adopted, and we greatly appreciate them for it. Thank You Kevin.’
Ian MacDonald nominated by PARDS
Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Ian MacDonald for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Ian is one of PARDS newest volunteers. His son now rides at PARDS, but when he registered and completed his assessment it was determined he would need a support team but at the time there were no volunteers available. Not wanting this to stop his son from riding, Ian came to the volunteer orientation and became a part of his son’s support team. He heard there were other volunteer opportunities and offered to come in for them as well. Ian also offers his time to fill in for other volunteers when he can. Ian has found a connection with our riders, creating a trusting bond with one rider in particular, and we have seen such positive changes in this rider. We can’t thank Ian enough for all he does.’

Seniors Outreach – Snow Fairies nominates Mitch Bourgeault for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Mitch and his son became Snow Fairies this winter to help a senior in their area with snow removal. We know how important it is as a parent to lead by example and by including children when doing community service and volunteering it encourages them to continue to do so when they are older. Eva Sexton nominated by PARDS
Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society (PARDS) nominates Eva Sexton for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Eva has been riding in the public program at PARDS since 2020. She is a student with drive and commitment to progress as a rider. She enjoyed being around the barn and didn’t hesitate to start helping out with barn chores, mucking stalls, and cleaning the barn, outside of her lesson time. Within time, Eva has proven to be responsible and was asked to help in the Little Pony Motricity Summer Camp and more recently is assisting the instructor to mentor the younger riders in the Petite Trot Program to catch, groom, saddle up and ride their horses / ponies. Eva is always willing to help anyone, without hesitation; (unless it’s her little sister), she leaves her to struggle a little bit. All in her best interest of course, helping her to get strong and confident in herself. Thank you Eva for being a great youth volunteer.’

They wrote ‘Miranda started volunteering with us at the beginning of September 2022 as an English Conversation Club Facilitator and we are so grateful to have her on our team. Despite life sending many curve balls at her the last few months she stayed committed to facilitating our Wednesday classes. She has shared her leadership skills with us as a valued member of our Board as well as her personal and professional experience to assist with program development. When PARDS identified a gap in mental health supports available to those experiencing trauma, Ellen immediately stepped up to share her knowledge, network and passion for Animal Assisted Therapy. With her on the team, we were able to structure a program aimed toward youth to build coping strategies and skills to better deal with future stresses and traumatic situations and support those who have encountered a traumatic event to work through and process the experience. Thank you, Ellen, for all you do and give and your deep commitment to building a strong community.’
