She comes and watches little ones at Family Education Society so the parents can take parenting classes without having to find baby-sitters. A lot of these families are low income families who would not be able to attend without this support, so her willingness to do this for them is soooo appreciated. Even though she herself struggles with low energy, she saves up energy in order to do this and she is so positive and wonderful with the children.’

Bonnie wrote ‘Lorne has taken it on most by himself to complete the construction of the ANAVETS Unit 389 new building. He has spent more hour then I can count. He is also the President of Unit 389 so he has many issues that he looks after. He has been the building maintenance person for several years including the previous building.’

They wrote ‘Ezra brings so many different skills and strengths to Camp Heal-A-Heart, just to name a few. We have seen the way they dedicate themselves to decorate and present awards to kids with enthusiasm and mindfulness to make them feel special it is truly inspiring. The way they interact with the kids is remarkable from leading groups with crafts, games and exercises to singing songs at lunch time, we appreciate you for all the many things you do for camp heal-a-heart and that you wholeheartedly put 110% in, we hope you know that you bring magic and joy to everyone you meet. They wrote ‘Alex has been a fairly new Mentor within our organization; however, he has gone above and beyond for his mentee. Barret has continuously requested for the agency to do something wonderful for his mentor because he thinks so highly of him. The two have been quite the team since they have been matched. Alex not only ensures Barret gets to do fun and amazing things, but he has also instilled many new traits in him, he has taught him as well as helped him improve in areas he already excels. Without Alex, Barret was without a positive male role model in his life, and from the very beginning of their match, Alex has ensured to do right by Barret and be that extra support system he has needed.’

She provides regular donations of personal care items to Wapiti House. She has recently volunteered at Rib Fest, GP Airshow, City scrub and Street Fest. We appreciate Fatima and her association for all her volunteer work and generous donations to the community including Babies Best Start and Pregnancy Care Center.’

They wrote ‘Marg Popkey has been with the Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society, serving as a Helping Hands Volunteer. She works diligently alongside the care aids helping with daily needs to keep the hospice “homelike” for the clients living there by watering flowers, washing dishes in the family kitchen area, taking care of meal delivery and doing laundry when needed. Marg also enjoys helping with special events as they come up for our agency. We want to thank Marg for all she does for us. Marg you ROCK!!!’

They wrote Mark is the President of the Champions of the Grande Prairie Public Library, which is an organization that works to advocate on behalf of the Library and support them with various projects through their volunteers and financial contributions they obtain through fundraising and other means. Mark has been a strong library supporter and volunteer for years; he served as the Board Chair for the Grande Prairie Public Library Board for several years, and he has been working with the Champions since their inception in 2021. Mark’s volunteer work with the Library has been instrumental in improving services, collections, and programs for the Grande Prairie community as a whole and his kindness and hard work deserves recognition.
