Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week

Janet with Grande Prairie Family Education Society nominates Cheila Enns for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! Janet wrote ‘I would like to nominate Cheila Enns for Volunteers of the Week.  She comes and watches little ones at Family Education Society so the parents can take parenting classes without having to find baby-sitters.  A lot of these families are low income families who would not be able to attend without this support, so her willingness to do this for them is soooo appreciated.  Even though she herself struggles with low energy, she saves up energy in order to do this and she is so positive and wonderful with the children.’

Meals On Wheels nominates Randy Uzelman for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Thank you to Randy Ulzelman. Randy helps deliver Meals On Wheels with the Catholic Women’s League this August! We appreciate your time and dedication as you let our regular volunteers have a well-deserved break in the summer. Your support is so appreciated and we look forward to seeing you again next year!’

Meals On Wheels nominates Theresa Uzelman for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Thank you to Theresa Uzelman.  Theresa helps deliver Meals on Wheels with the Catholic Women’s League every August for over 20 years! We appreciate your time, incredible organizational skills and cheerfulness as you let our regular volunteers have a well-deserved break in the summer. Thank you also to Theresa who coordinated everyone this year.’

Wembley Firefighters Association nominates Teri Ondrik for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Teri has played a key role in keeping our Association running for years! She is a dedicated treasurer and secretary who consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our organization is successful. Teri is dependable, knowledgeable, and brings an overall positive presence to our board of directors. Thank you for your service Teri, we really don’t know what we would do without you!’

Bonnie Middleton with ANAVETS Unit 389 nominates Lorne Scobie for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! Bonnie wrote ‘Lorne has taken it on most by himself to complete the construction of the ANAVETS Unit 389 new building. He has spent more hour then I can count. He is also the President of Unit 389 so he has many issues that he looks after. He has been the building maintenance person for several years including the previous building.’

Grande Prairie and District Grief Support Association nominates Ezra Hartman for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Ezra brings so many different skills and strengths to Camp Heal-A-Heart, just to name a few. We have seen the way they dedicate themselves to decorate and present awards to kids with enthusiasm and mindfulness to make them feel special it is truly inspiring. The way they interact with the kids is remarkable from leading groups with crafts, games and exercises to singing songs at lunch time, we appreciate you for all the many things you do for camp heal-a-heart and that you wholeheartedly put 110% in, we hope you know that you bring magic and joy to everyone you meet. This is your second year with many more to come because you truly do make a difference in camp he- a-he.’

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie and Area nominates Alexander Balobin for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Alex has been a fairly new Mentor within our organization; however, he has gone above and beyond for his mentee. Barret has continuously requested for the agency to do something wonderful for his mentor because he thinks so highly of him. The two have been quite the team since they have been matched. Alex not only ensures Barret gets to do fun and amazing things, but he has also instilled many new traits in him, he has taught him as well as helped him improve in areas he already excels. Without Alex, Barret was without a positive male role model in his life, and from the very beginning of their match, Alex has ensured to do right by Barret and be that extra support system he has needed.’

Almas Choudhry nominates Fatima Gueye for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Fatima and her organization provide back-to-school supplies and snacks to local schools. She provides regular donations of personal care items to Wapiti House. She has recently volunteered at Rib Fest, GP Airshow, City scrub and Street Fest. We appreciate Fatima and her association for all her volunteer work and generous donations to the community including Babies Best Start and Pregnancy Care Center.’

Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society nominates Marg Popkey for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Marg Popkey has been with the Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society, serving as a Helping Hands Volunteer. She works diligently alongside the care aids helping with daily needs to keep the hospice “homelike” for the clients living there by watering flowers, washing dishes in the family kitchen area, taking care of meal delivery and doing laundry when needed. Marg also enjoys helping with special events as they come up for our agency. We want to thank Marg for all she does for us. Marg you ROCK!!!’

Grande Prairie Public Library nominates Mark Evans for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote Mark is the President of the Champions of the Grande Prairie Public Library, which is an organization that works to advocate on behalf of the Library and support them with various projects through their volunteers and financial contributions they obtain through fundraising and other means. Mark has been a strong library supporter and volunteer for years; he served as the Board Chair for the Grande Prairie Public Library Board for several years, and he has been working with the Champions since their inception in 2021. Mark’s volunteer work with the Library has been instrumental in improving services, collections, and programs for the Grande Prairie community as a whole and his kindness and hard work deserves recognition. Thanks for all that you and the Champions do, Mark! ‘

Grande Prairie and District Grief Support Association (Camp Heal-A-Heart) nominates Jancey Dolen for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Jancey Dolen, volunteered last year for us and made such an amazing impact on the kids and other volunteers at camp, her compassionate nature and warm smile made everyone feel comfortable around her. We are immensely grateful for her and the skills she uses as a wellness coach with the connect team to bring forth to Camp Heal-A-Heart, i know that no matter where you will go in life that you will be successful. Thank you again for volunteering last year and this year!’

Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers nominates Norris Paquin for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers is an organization dedicated to making kayaking safe and accessible to the community, and to grow the sport in our youth. Norris has been our groups treasurer for several years now in a volunteer position. He also continues to step up and help coach groups, drive kids, shuttle around our team, and steps up at tournaments to run timeclocks and ref. Our organization is small but mighty, and it wouldn’t exist without our volunteers like Norris.’
