She has volunteered year-round in our 1-1 tutoring program and summer Reading Tent program. Last summer, Marian was integral to the success of our Reading Tents. She was extremely helpful in all aspects of the events, from set-up to tear-down and all of the children’s activities in between! Over the past school year, Marian shared her time, knowledge, patience, and kindness to help a young student improve her literacy skills. Marian joined in celebrating all of the Frontier College learners at their year-end party, which was a well-deserved event for everyone involved! Thanks for being such a wonderful volunteer, Marian! Frontier College nominates Erika Smith for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Over the past two years, Erika has shared her time, energy, and passion for helping others with Frontier College. We were able to return to in-person tutoring this year and Erika jumped at the opportunity to work with several Grade 6 students. Her calm, kind, and light-hearted demeanor helped learners feel comfortable and supported when working on their reading skills. It was evident that Erika’s students enjoyed every session with her and greatly benefited from their time spent together. Erika is heading to school in the fall and, while she will be missed tremendously, we wish her all the best in the next chapter of her journey!’

She builds deep connections with her learners and puts incredible time, effort, and creativity into her sessions. She truly follows Frontier College’s student-centred approach and makes learning personalized, engaging, and fun. Tanis has the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the school program; she continued to tutor online and was open to working with a new student part way through the school year.
