Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week

Frontier College nominates Erika Smith for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Over the past two years, Erika has shared her time, energy, and passion for helping others with Frontier College. We were able to return to in-person tutoring this year and Erika jumped at the opportunity to work with several Grade 6 students. Her calm, kind, and light-hearted demeanor helped learners feel comfortable and supported when working on their reading skills. It was evident that Erika’s students enjoyed every session with her and greatly benefited from their time spent together. Erika is heading to school in the fall and, while she will be missed tremendously, we wish her all the best in the next chapter of her journey!’

Frontier College nominates Tanis Radoux for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Tanis has enthusiastically volunteered with Frontier College in our 1-to-1 school reading program and summer StoryWalk program. She builds deep connections with her learners and puts incredible time, effort, and creativity into her sessions. She truly follows Frontier College’s student-centred approach and makes learning personalized, engaging, and fun. Tanis has the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the school program; she continued to tutor online and was open to working with a new student part way through the school year. During the summer, her great communication, reliability, and weekend availability was immensely appreciated. We are grateful for Tanis’ ongoing support!’

Grande Prairie Council for Lifelong Learning nominates Ashley Crossley for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘We would like to nominate our volunteer tutor, Ashley Crossley, for Volunteer of the Week. She is currently working with 2 learners, customizing lesson plans based on their learning needs and goals. Ashley is patient, enthusiastic and very motivated in helping our students succeed in their career aspirations. We are extremely grateful to have Ashley on our team!’

Regional EMS Foundation nominates Naomi Ducklow for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Naomi has been a volunteer on our board of directors for two years. She is an extremely dedicated volunteer with our foundation as well as a highly involved member of Rotary. As a not for profit recipient of the current Cash and Camping Campaign, Naomi really stepped up and rallied volunteers. Her efforts played an imperative role in our foundation to fulfill our obligation of ticket sellers at the booth. She continues to go over and above to support our community. We would love to send cheers to Naomi and thank her immensely for her efforts.’

Frontier College nominates Megan Visser for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Megan is a valued, long-term volunteer with Frontier College. She is always eager to support our learners throughout the school year, often working with more than one which is appreciated by F.C and school staff alike. Megan comes to every session wearing a huge smile and has created truly meaningful connections with her students; it is clear that they love working with her too. Megan helped her Grade 3 student gain trust, confidence, and success when the student needed it most. Thank you for being such a passionate, dedicated volunteer to our program. We are so lucky that you return to share your knowledge, compassion, and time with our learners year after year. Thank you!’

Steve Osborn with Technical Search and Rescue nominates Tom Paul for Volunteers of the Week! Steve wrote ‘Tom is an operational member of TSR he is also a board member and the logistics officer. He spends his time ensuring the teams vehicles and equipment are cleaned and maintained.’

Grande Prairie Family Education Society nominates Edith Hurst for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Edith has kindly shared her time with us volunteering from Coats for Kids to the Good Food Basket program.’

Communities Building Youth Futures nominates Brandon Harrison for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Brandon goes above and beyond with his volunteering for Communities Building Youth Futures. He Co-Chairs our Leadership Table as well as our Education Action Team, is a moderator on our Discord Server, and also on our CBYF Ambassador team. He spends countless hours volunteering with CBYF to grow the initiative locally, get more youth involved, and ensure that there is strong youth voice around our tables. He is always willing to lend a hand.’

Frontier College nominates Patricia MacLean for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Patty became a volunteer tutor with Frontier College in the fall and has made a huge difference in the life of her learner. From day one, she has been reliable, punctual, thoughtful and creative with her sessions. Her ability to connect with and inspire her Grade 8 student has been incredible to witness. In addition to focused literacy learning, Patty and her learner have explored his interests and set goals for his future. His increased confidence and school success is evident. Patty’s dedication and enthusiasm really shone when she spearheaded a field trip to the Art Gallery for her student, which led to a great experience for all Frontier College learners. We are so grateful for the time and energy Patty dedicates to our school program! Thank you!’

Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association nominates Scott Lefebvre for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Scott is one of the most reliable, consistent and rock-solid volunteers an organization could have. He takes ownership of everything he does and is a wonderfully kind soul. Scott helps us with set up and tear down for events and helps with everything from janitorial work to painting! His contributions to our association are significant! ‘

Grande Prairie Council for Lifelong Learning nominates Barb Warner for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘We would like to nominate our Volunteer Tutor Barb Warner. Barb has been helping our ESL student prepare for her English Proficiency exam. The learner was working towards achieving a level 5 in her reading and writing, and within a month of tutoring, the learner received 5s in both language skills! Because of this, the learner can apply for permanent residency! Barb tutored her learner 3-4 times a week to make sure she received enough practice with the material. We thank Barb for her dedication, support and giving the gift of time to her learner. We are very fortunate to have her on our team!’

Krissy and Sexsmith Playschool Society nominates Abby Fischer for Volunteers of the Week! Krissy wrote ‘I’m writing to highlight our rock star Fundraiser Coordinator Abby Fischer. She goes above and beyond and puts countless hours into our ongoing fundraisers. With us being a nonprofit organization, our main source of income is through fundraisers and she has put so much thought and detail while organizing all of our 2021/2022 fundraisers. We would be completely lost without her.’
