Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest Region nominates Rachel White for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Rachel White has been volunteering her time to Canadian Mental Health Association since 2016. Rachel currently sits on the board of directors as the Director/Treasurer committing to many hours of her time to support our Vision, A Canada where Mental Health is a Universal Right.’

Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest Region nominates Glenn Penner for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Glenn Penner has volunteered for Canadian Mental Health Association since 2017 and is currently the President of the Board of Directors. Glenn gives numerous hours of his time to ensure that all people in our community experience good mental health.’

Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest Region nominates Kerrin Jackson for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Kerrin Jackson has served on the CMHA Board of Directors for two years. Kerrin is a social worker with experience in disability services and addictions which brings in a wealth of information to our programing. Focusing on community development and initiatives, Kerrin also serves as a member of the Women’s National Housing & Homelessness Network steering committee and a mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters Canada.’

Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest Region nominates Brent Taylor for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Brent is CMHA’s Vice-President and is semi-retired from general construction and millwork/furniture manufacturing companies. currently a student of architecture, Brent still has time to volunteer his time to support CMHA. Brent who experienced homelessness during adolescence and survived the loss of an adult son to depression has a passion for mentally-healthy built environments, good mental health and suicide prevention programs. Brent also sits on the CMHA Regional Board of Alberta and chairs our fundraising committee.’

Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Northwest Region nominates Angie Saltman for Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Angie has been supporting CMHA as a board member as well as through her business (Saltmedia) since 2010. Her passion for mental health and safe housing is directly connected to seeing people close to her suffer from addictions and die by suicide. She continues to advocate for interventions that promote good mental health and essential mental health resources.

Angie’s company created the CMHA website in 2014 and she was an advocate for bringing in Recovery College to Grande Prairie as well as bringing in OSI-CAN. Her current position of Past President still supports CMHA at AGM’s and as an advisor.’

The NW Peace FASD Network is very grateful for the wonderful board members we have. We would like to recognize Kathy Lambert for Tim Hortons Volunteer of the Week. Kathy has been the executive director for Wapiti Community Support Association since 2018. Kathy joined the NW Peace FASD Network board as a director in 2021 as she was wanting to be involved in the great work the network is doing in the north. She has worked in multiple positions in the Human Service field in Northern Alberta. I am passionate about supporting people in getting connected to the resources they choose and to be successful in their goals. I believe in supporting individuals with FASD and their families to recognize themselves as supported valued members of our community.

The NW Peace FASD Network is very grateful for the wonderful board members we have. We would like to recognize Sterling Andrews for Tim Hortons Volunteer of the Week. Sterling has been a member of the Northwest FASD Society board of directors since the summer of 2019. He is the Director of Programs for Care Human Services Ltd. which supports individuals in diverse and complex support needs in the Peace Region. In 2012, he and his partner relocated from the east coast to the beautiful Peace Country and has called the Peace River area home for the past decade. They are proud members of the LGBTQ2+ community and welcomed their first child into their life through adoption in early 2019. Sterling enjoys challenging experiences, spending time with family, and camping. He is currently working towards completing a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Sterling is passionate about seeing that services are offered to Alberta’s most vulnerable throughout the province including rural communities in the north. The work that the Northwest FASD Society’s board, staff, and contracted service providers provides in the community makes him proud to be a part of a team having such a meaningful impact.

Grande Prairie Public Library nominates Debbie Normington for Volunteers of the Week for her valuable experience with non-profits, her ability to see the big picture and prioritize what’s important, and for understanding the purpose of the Library.
