Elders Caring Shelter Society nominates Gerald Bergeson for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Gerald Bergeson is a resident at the Elders Caring Shelter. He carves leather indigenous crafts for the elders Caring Shelter, donates them to the shelter, and we sell them at our fundraising events to raise money for the Shelter. He deserves to be recognized for Volunteering to make leather crafting for us to sell and keep the money. This has helped our organization to raise much needed money for the operations of the Shelter. He has been doing this for the past several years for the Shelter. Volunteering to make the crafts for the shelter is doing a couple of great things. 1) He is helping to raise money for the Shelter to keep the doors open for homeless Elders that live here, and 2) He is helping the community by displaying his Indigenous artwork proudly is a part of Reconciliation and we know that is a huge part of moving forward for indigenous people. He spends hours and hours making beautiful leather crafting. He donates all of his money made from crafts to the homeless shelter. Mr. Bergeson deserves recognition for the volunteer hours he puts in to give back to our community.’

Elders Caring Shelter Society nominates Willietta Cardinal for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Willietta is a long-time volunteer at the Elders Caring Shelter. She does ticket sales for our fundraising raffles and 50/50. Willietta volunteers to help set up for our activities we have at the shelter. She also volunteered many hours to wrap food in the shelter during covid days and still does for our fundraisers. She also goes into the kitchen and help chopping vegetables for our events. Willietta deserves this recognition for the community, as she has also volunteered several times in the past to serve food for the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre for the homeless. She has also volunteered out at Evergreen for the Stompede.’

Elders Caring Shelter Society nominates Gabrielle Nelles for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Gabrielle (Gabby) has helped us for the past years with the Youth and Elders Retreat and helped us to do activities with the Elders. Gabby also comes in on the weekends and helps the cook whenever she can. She has been a great volunteer for the shelter. She also helps us with our fundraising events. Gabby deserves to be recognized for her volunteering in the community, because most of our residents and Elders are not strong enough to do heavy lifting and be on their feet throughout the fundraising events that we have. She helps with the Barbecues and yard sales that we have to raise money.’

Elders Caring Shelter Society nominates Keri Price for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Keri volunteers every year (for the past 5 years) to take the Elders on a 4-day youth and elder retreat. Keri also helps us with fundraising events. She is always willing to help us with anything we need, no matter how big or small. When Keri was 6 years old and lived in Sexsmith, she sold freezies on her front lawn in the hot sun all one Sunday, and proudly brought over $21.17 to the Elders Caring Shelter and presented it to the residents of the Shelter. She was so happy because she even sold some freezies to the policemen in the police car and they went back twice. She sold them for 10 cents each. She was so sweet that we kept her on as a volunteer for all of these years. She is now 20 years old, and her Grandmother lives here.’

He volunteers profusely with the Shelter to help with fundraising, yard work, and anything else we ask him to do. He also helps the community by going over to “Helping Hands” and helping them with sorting items and packaging for their clients.’

Grande Prairie and District Grief Support Association (Camp Heal A Heart) nominates Davina Dawson for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! They wrote ‘Davina had Volunteered for camp last year and will be doing it again this year, I want to show our appreciation towards her this year. She has a vast knowledge base on mental health and education, it was an asset when she was interacting with the kids. She is authentically herself and her self awareness brought confidence to the campers and they got to “live out loud” without the fear of being rejected.’

Erin Litchfield nominates Taryn Carell for Tim Hortons Volunteers of the Week! Erin wrote ‘Taryn Carrell is an extraordinary woman who puts her heart and soul into all she does and the people she interacts with. Just one of the many areas Taryn volunteers in has been the gingerbread houses at the Festival of Trees. She has been involved with these since 2002! She dedicates hours upon hours as well as bringing the great excitement and opportunity of building gingerbread houses into her Kindergarten classroom. Taryn is not one to brag or need the limelight, but I feel she needs to be recognized for all she has done and continues to do in relation to the gingerbread houses.’
